I applied for a Schengen Visa. It got rejected.

But unlike this guy who lost ₹3.5 Lakhs — I lost only ₹11,000.

Here's exactly how I did it. 🧵

A Delhi-based bank executive — a Business Head at Unity Small Finance Bank with a 7-figure salary and a solid savings balance — applied for a Schengen Visa to Greece.

His visa got rejected two days after his scheduled flight date.

He lost ₹3.5 Lakhs in non-refundable flights and hotel bookings.

His rejection reason? "We are not sure you will return to India.

Here's the shocking part — my visa got rejected for the exact same reason.

But I only lost ₹11,000. Not ₹3.5 Lakhs.

Here's the full breakdown:

✅ Schengen Visa Fee — ₹8,100

✅ VFS Processing Fee — ₹1,850

✅ Dummy Flight Tickets — ₹1,900

Total Loss: ₹11,000

That's it. Nothing more.

So how did I protect myself from losing lakhs?

Step 1 — I never booked real flights before my visa was approved.

Instead of booking actual tickets (which most people do to show travel intent), I used dummy ticket services like onwardticket.com and dummyticket247.com.

These generate legitimate-looking confirmed itineraries that embassies accept — without you spending tens of thousands on real bookings.

Step 2 — I bought Travel Insurance and the insurance company refunded my premium.

Now let me give you the bigger picture.

In 2024 alone, Indians filed over 11 lakh Schengen visa applications.

1.65 lakh were rejected — a 15% refusal rate.

Indians collectively lost ₹136 Crore in visa fees and non-refundable bookings.

France alone rejected 31,314 Indian applications — the highest among all Schengen countries.

That is ₹136 Crore gone. Just like that.

And most of it? Completely avoidable.

The 3 mistakes people make that cost them lakhs:

❌ Booking real flights before visa approval

❌ Not buying travel insurance with visa rejection cover

❌ Not understanding the exact reason embassies reject applications

How to protect yourself before applying for a Schengen Visa:

📌 Always use dummy/onward tickets for your itinerary — never book real flights first.

📌 Buy a travel insurance policy with visa rejection cover before submitting your application.

📌 Apply well in advance — appointment slots at some consulates now take up to 2 months.

📌 Ensure your documents prove strong ties to India — No Objection Certificate from your company, property, family, bank statements.

📌 Watch these reference videos before applying (add your video links here).

My visa got rejected. It stung.

But losing ₹11,000 is very different from losing ₹3.5 Lakhs.

The difference wasn't luck.

It was preparation.
