Do not include Personal Accident cover in your insurance

Next time you renew your two-wheeler or car insurance, pay very close attention.

There's a rider that almost always gets added to your policy automatically — the Compulsory Personal Accident (PA) Cover.

And most people have no idea they're being overcharged because of it.

Most of us know that third-party insurance is mandatory for every vehicle.

But here's what far fewer people realise — a Personal Accident policy is also mandatory for every vehicle owner.

Not every vehicle. Every owner.

That's a critical distinction.

If you own multiple vehicles and renew each policy separately, there's a good chance every single policy has a PA cover auto-added — even though one personal accident policy per person is all you legally need.

You could unknowingly be paying for three or four PA policies at the same time.

Insurance companies know this.

That's precisely why PA cover is included by default — it's easy to sell, and even easier to miss.

And here's the harder truth — most people don't even know how many PA policies exist under their name, which makes it nearly impossible to claim them correctly when it actually matters.

So here's what you should do instead.

✅ Buy one standalone Personal Accident policy separately — ideally in a way your family can easily access and claim it if something happens to you.

✅ Uncheck the PA cover every time you buy or renew motor insurance — it's optional once you have a standalone policy in place.

✅ If you're buying a new vehicle, call your dealer before delivery day and say clearly:

"Do not include PA cover in my insurance."

Because by the time the vehicle reaches you, the policy is likely already issued — and that could mean you've just added a fourth unnecessary PA cover to your name, inflating your premium for no reason.

One policy. One person. That's all you need.

Don't let default checkboxes quietly drain your wallet every year.
